Answers to commonly asked questions:
Does my teen have to attend the Fired Up! Confirmation Conference?
Yes, attendance of the Confirmation Conference is part of the diocesan Confirmation norms and guidelines, which outlines the confirmation prep requirements for parish programs. See details here: https://www.scd.org/sites/default/files/2017-12/Confirmation%20Norms%20%26%20Guidelines%20Updated%202017_0.docx
How does the Confirmation Conference fit within my teen's Confirmation prep at the parish?
Fired Up! Confirmation Conference gives Year 2 Confirmation students a glimpse of the reality that they are not alone in their faith journey and that, in being received fully into the Church, they are part of a universal family, that includes their parish or school, but also extends beyond their local church family. They are drawn into the excitement for Christ and His Church, with a focus upon connecting the student with their bishop, connecting with the more global Church, and calling them to see Confirmation as a beginning, rather than an end by how they respond once they have been sealed by the Holy Spirit at their Confirmation. Why does my teen have to attend a retreat and the Confirmation Conference?
The retreat is a fundamentally spiritual exercise that focuses on connecting students in an ever-deepening, personal relationship with Christ through His Church and the Sacraments. The “Fired Up” Confirmation Conference, on the other hand, provides an opportunity for Bishop Soto to speak to the young people who are about to receive the gift of Confirmation and to call them to the sacrament. During that call, the Church, through the Bishop, recognizes and affirms that the gathered candidates “have the dispositions that make them fit to take part…in the sacraments of initiation” (119). In other words, it’s a chance for the Bishop to speak into the lives of your Confirmation students and say, “yes, you’re choosing to complete your initiation, but it is the Church who also chooses you.” Read more and watch the explanation video here: https://www.scd.org/news/what-confirmation-conference-and-why-it-important.
Can I register just my teen for the Confirmation Conference?
Parish confirmation programs register as one large group - there are no individual registrations. If your teen is the only participant in your parish's Confirmation program this year, please contact our office (916-733-0123) and we will help connect you with your next closest parish to attend with them.
What if my teen can't attend the date my parish registered for?
Contact your Confirmation Coordinator or the Director/Coordinator of Religious Education at your parish as soon as you learn of the conflict. There are multiple dates and locations for Fired Up and your coordinator will work with you and the diocesan offices to make arrangements for your teen as needed.
